Alberta Innovates Bio Solutions, in collaboration with the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency (ALMA), invited applications to the "2012-13 Food Safety Research and Innovation Program." This program will build on Alberta’s excellent reputation in food safety and contribute to the reduction of incidence of food borne illnesses. The results: improved health and well-being of Albertans and increase consumer confidence in the province’s food and agricultural industries.

Kim McConnell, an ALMA board member, acted as a judge for the 2012 CYL selection. Sean Royer, the director of industry investments, also assisted in the selection process as the ALMA representative. Building relationships improve market access opportunities for Alberta’s meat and livestock industry

ALMA’s president and CEO, Gordon Cove, attended meetings with Asylhan Mamytbeckov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Calgary on April 4. The Kazakhstan agriculture ministry is interested in Alberta’s livestock industry – in particularly, the cattle sector - and demonstrated a willingness to further develop relationships with Alberta. Meetings such as this one help develop new partnerships, potentially leading to new markets and opportunities for industry.
